EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), also known as “tapping”, is a gentle mind–body approach that combines cognitive focus with stimulation of specific acupressure points on the face, hands, and body.
It is often used as a supportive tool for chronic pain by helping reduce stress responses in the nervous system and improving emotional regulation.
Chronic pain is often fueled by an overactive amygdala - the part of the brain responsible for the "fight or flight" response.
EFT works by sending direct, calming signals to the brain's limbic system, physically altering your stress response.
Tapping may help to:
Calm the nervous system and reduce stress response
Lower emotional intensity connected to pain
Reduce muscle tension and physical tightness
Support a more balanced perception of discomfort

During a session, you gently tap on specific points on the face, hands, and upper body while focusing on the area of discomfort or emotional stress.
You may also use simple phrases such as acknowledging how you feel and introducing calming statements. This combination of awareness and stimulation helps the body shift out of a heightened stress state.
Chronic pain is often linked with emotional patterns such as anxiety, fear, anger, or past stress experiences. EFT helps bring attention to these responses while calming their intensity.
This may support a reduction in:
Emotional overwhelm
Stress-related pain amplification
Negative thought loops connected to pain
By focusing on pain while using tapping techniques, many people experience a shift in how the brain processes discomfort. Over time, this can help the pain feel: less intense, less emotionally charged, more manageable in daily life.
EFT is not a replacement for medical care, but it can be a valuable complementary tool for supporting emotional wellbeing and nervous system balance in chronic pain.
